Kenya Jones, C’92

Kenya A. Jones graduated from Spelman College in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.  After college, she worked in various positions, which included detention officer, interview specialist for child abuse victims, and victim-witness assistant, all of which further prepared her to attend law school, a long time dream. Kenya graduated from the Robert McKinney School of Law, Indiana University-Indianapolis in May 2002 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. After law school, Kenya became the Director of Operations at the Genesis Convention Center in Gary, Indiana, negotiating contracts, hosting and planning events, managing employees, and reporting to a Board of managers.  In 2006, Kenya left that position to work for a nonprofit organization, Urban Community Action Network, which focused on developing and restoring healthy marriages and relationships in at-risk communities in Northwest Indiana. In 2008, she became a board member for the Redevelopment Commission (RDC) for Gary, Indiana, which was responsible for overseeing the development of real estate and development projects for the city of Gary. While a board member of the RDC, she also served as president for seven years and served a total of twelve years on the board.

After working in several capacities over the years, Kenya became an attorney in 2010 in the state of Indiana and worked with a small law firm, Robert Lewis and Associates in Gary, Indiana until 2018. In 2019, Kenya started her own law firm, The Jones Law Group, LLC, which practices in the areas of real estate, probate, criminal defense, juvenile law, personal injury, and business matters. Additionally, she served as secretary of the James C. Kimbrough Bar Association in 2014 and served as president in 2015.

Kenya has been a member of the Chicago Chapter of the NAASC since 2014 and has served as legal advisor since 2015 to our illustrious organization. “The ongoing theme of my career and community involvement has always been service, and it has been my pleasure to serve my alma mater in this capacity.”
